One popular theory is that it was invented by a man named Michel Ésper at a sports club in San Luis Potosí during the 1960s. He asked for his beer with lime, salt, and hot sauce, a combination which was later nicknamed "Michel's lemonade" or Michelada. The drink consists of beer mixed with lime juice, assorted sauces, spices, and peppers
